Just this Saturday, Dec 17 2011, Typhoon Sendong dropped over 180mm of rain in less than one day. The Northern Mindanao region of the Philippines for the first time in history caused severe flash flooding. Rivers overflowed catching those living near by surprise. The cities of Iligan and Cagayan de Oro City were devastated – power and water supplies shut down, the whole area including farm lots swept by flood, with hundreds reported dead and hundreds more missing.

Those who have faced the wrath of nature and survived have moved to evacuation centers. Many of them are still looking for their missing relatives. Families are cramped in public schools and have very little to eat and drink.

It is during this time of crisis that the Filipino spirit of resilience shines bright. Be the star that lights the way to a future filled with hope.
